Baseball

Varsity: Central Valley 3, Laguna Creek 1

The Hawks (2-2) finished the week strong with a solid win on Friday against the Laguna Creek Cardinals.  After giving up a run in the top of the 6th which tied the game at 1-1, CV answered in the bottom half of the inning with 2 runs to secure the narrow win.  CV was led by Mason Whitworth (3-4), Caden Mendonca (2-3, 2B, RBI),  and Tyson Hunt (2-3, 2B, run).  On the mound, Dom Delatorre went 5 strong inning, striking out 5, but he did not factor into the decision.  Noah Maldonado secured the win out to the bullpen with 1 1/3 innings of quality relief including 3 K’s.  The Hawks will be busy this week as the face 3 tough opponents: Pitman (Mon), Pleasant Grove (Tues), and Gregori (Fri).

Softball

Varsity: Buhach Colony 16, Central Valley 11

It was ultimately the darkness and some bad luck that defeated the Hawks on Friday as CV lost a wild one at Buhach Colony.  The Hawks trailed 12-0 early, but this gritty group came all the way and back made this a game.  The Hawks actually scored 5 in the top of the 7th to tie the game at 16, but due to darkness, the umpires ruled that the game had to revert back to the 6th inning as the game could not be completed which handed a defeat to CV.  Even in defeat, this was a great early season test for the Hawks as they proved they are never out of a game.  The CV offense was led by Selene Valencia (2-4, 2 RBI, run), Selah Chesney (2-5, 2 runs), and Brooklynn Steeley (2 RBI, 2 runs).  The Hawks will be back in action this Wednesday when they travel to Hilmar to take on the Yellowjackets.

Boys Volleyball

Varsity: Patterson 3, Central Valley 0

In their home opener on Friday, the Hawks dropped a non-league match to the Patterson Tigers.  The Hawks had some solid moments throughout the night and continue to improve, but some unforced errors led to their defeat.  CV looks to get back on track this week as they travel to Enochs tomorrow night.
