Varsity: Grace Davis 20, Central Valley 14 (3 OT)
On Friday night at Johansen High in Modesto, the Hawks and Spartans battled in what turned out to be a wild game to the very end. Unfortunately, the Hawks fell in the 3rd overtime period to the Spartans by the score of 20-14. CV gave a noble effort and left it all on the field. The Hawks were highlighted by a 4th and goal 3-yard touchdown pass from Junior Gomez to Max Gonzalez and an 80 yard TD strike from Gomez to Caden Mendonca. The Hawks were unable to capitalize on any of their overtime opportunities and the Spartans scored on their first play from scrimmage in the 3rd overtime to pick up the win. The 1-3 Hawks have been snake-bitten so far this season as all 3 of their losses have been by one score. CV continues to show signs of improvement, but the Hawks are getting tired of the morale victories. CV will look to get back on track against the Pacheco Panthers this coming Friday night at Ceres High 5:00pm/7:00pm. CV is still very much in the race for a top finish in the WAC as the league has a ton of parity this season with all teams being evenly competitive.

After a challenging 1st set, the Hawks were back-and-forth with the Wolves, but couldn’t get over the hump. The Wolves were able to hold off CV for the 3-0 win. CV will look to get into the win column this week as they travel to Johansen tonight to take on the Vikings.
