The Hawks came out last night and picked up a huge win over the Lathrop Spartans on the road by the tune of 8-0. The Hawks (13-12 overall) are clinging onto their playoff hopes as they are currently the #17 team ranked in DI and the top 16 get in the playoffs. CV will have to finish strong in their final 3 games as they host Ceres High tomorrow (Wednesday) and then finish up the season with games at Atwater (Friday) and Merced (next Thursday).
Swimming
The Hawks competed in the WAC Finals this past weekend and both the boys and girls programs had great strides this season. The varsity girls finished 4th in league and the boys finished 6th. There was major improvement throughout the season and things are trending in the right direction for the swim program. Coach Rocha has put in a ton of time and energy into building the program and the hard work is showing. The Hawks did have an individual league champion as Phillip Esparza won league titles in both the 100 backstroke and the 100 Butterfly.
Boys Golf
The Hawks had their best showing of the season yesterday as they saved their best for the WAC Finals. CV stormed from the lower parts of the WAC standings all the way to a 4th place finish in league. The Hawks showed improvement all season and they peaked at the right time. Individually, CV was able to post some impressive accomplishments. William Montez and Emmanuel Campos both made 2nd team all-league and will move on to the CIF SJS Divisional playoff round. Additionally, Adolfo Diaz took 5th place yesterday which also catapulted him into the Divisional playoffs. This gives CV a total of 3 golfers that will be advancing to the Section playoffs. Congrats to Coach Edwards and our golfers on a great season to date.
Boys Volleyball
The Varsity Hawks wrapped up their season over the break and finished up with a 6th place finish this year. CV was able to pick up 4 league wins which is an improvement from last season. Coach Madrigal stepped up and did a great job with the program this season. He is already preparing for next year and we look forward to watching the program grow.
Boys Tennis
The boys tennis program finished up the season with a 4th place finish as the Hawks were competitive in all league matches, falling just short in several tight contests against the top teams in league. The Hawks will look to improve over the summer to get ready for next season.
Track
The WAC Finals will be this coming Saturday at Ceres High. Here are how the Hawks currently sit in the team standings going into the finals: VAR Girls (5th), VAR Boys (6th), JV Girls (1st), and JV (3rd). Good luck to our track program this Saturday!
