Boys Soccer (SJS DI Quarterfinals)

Central Valley 2, Inderkum 0 (OT)

The Hawks and Tigers had an epic battle in the quarterfinal round of the SJS DI playoffs.  Both teams were ready for this tilt as the defenses played aggressively on both sides.  CV controlled most of the tempo of the game, but Inderkum did have a few scoring chances throughout the game that were denied by a feisty CV defense.  After 80 minutes of regulation play, the game was still scoreless and was pushed into overtime.  The CIF overtime rules allot for 2 period of 10 minutes (no golden goal to end game).  In the first overtime, the Hawks put the pressure on the Tigers and the result was a PK attempt after a foul on Alejandro Garcia in the box.  A couple of Tiger defenders pulled Alejandro to the ground on a scoring opportunity and this PK was the result.  Looking calm under pressure, Alejandro drilled the penalty kick into the back of the net and the CV bench and crowd erupted in joy!  This 1-0 lead went into the 2nd overtime period and the exact same chain of events led to the next CV goal.  Once again, the Tigers could not contain Alejandro and another Inderkum foul resulted in another successful PK by Alejandro Garcia.  The Hawks would secure this hard-fought 2-0 win to advance for the SJS DI semi-finals which will be this Wednesday at Davis Sr. High School at 6:00pm.  Davis Sr. High is the #2 seed and the Hawks are the #3 seed.  This promises to be a tough battle.  Good luck to our Hawks as they look to continue their playoff run.

Wrestling (Masters)

The Hawks were busy at the SJS Masters Wrestling tournament this past weekend in Stockton.

On the Boys Wrestling side, Angel Melgoza went the deepest for the Hawks, but, unfortunately, an elbow injury cut his season short and he had to medically withdrawal. He still finished in the top 12 in the section and had an overall season record 41-5. Angel also eclipsed the 100 career win mark in his time here at CV.  He is just the 2nd male wrestling in school history to accomplish the feat.  Congrats to Angel on an amazing 4 year run!

On the Girls Wrestling side, Brianna Espinoza, Alicia Espinoza, & Giana Breshears all made it back to the state tourney! Brianna & Giana are the first 3-time state qualifiers in school history with Alicia going back for her 2nd time.

Softball

Central Valley 6, Hughson 4

Central Valley 12, El Capitan 0

Baseball

Central Valley 12, Ripon 2

The Hawks came out swinging on Friday and defeated the Ripon Indians by the score of 12-2.  CV has a busy week ahead as they travel to Linden (MON), Pitman (WED), and Laguna Creek (FRI).
